ASHER-SMITH STOCKHOLM SURGE SETS UP MULLER ANNIVERSARY GAMES SPRINT SHOWDOWN

Dina Asher-Smith set a second women’s 200m world lead and second Diamond League victory of the season with a blitzing run in Stockholm last night, proving that come the Muller Anniversary Games in July she will be the one to beat.

In a world class 200m field she was a runaway winner in 22.18s (1.3), improving her previous world leading mark of 22.26s.

It was such an amazing run that even Asher-Smith herself felt that her performance took her slightly by surprise!

Afterwards, she said: “I am happy with that. My aim was to come, win and run my own race which is very important in a race of that calibre.

“I was very happy to win but I didn’t expect to run that kind of time as it is quite cold out and late at night. I’m glad it stopped raining.”

If that’s what we can expect from Asher Smith on a cold Stockholm night in May, surely the London Stadium is set to sizzle in the July sunshine in front of her home crowd!
