UKA Coach Aston Moore is one of five athletics names featured in this year’s New Year’s honours published this evening, receiving an MBE for services to Athletics. The recognition comes just weeks after UK Coaching recognised Moore with the Lifetime Achievement award.

In addition, former UKA Member and esteemed technical official Wendy Haxell and former UKA Board member Peter Crawshaw receive an OBE and MBE respectively for service to athletics.

Olympic Champion and President of Commonwealth Games England Denise Lewis becomes a Dame for services to sport. Denise was part of the successful bid team that just last month helped UKA win the right to stage the European Athletics Championships in 2026, having also supported the organisation of the London 2017 World Championships.

And becoming a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire, David Cooney of Cambuslang Harriers AC is recognised for services to Athletics.

“We’re very proud to see representatives of athletics recognised in the Honours list published tonight. It is a sign of the dedication shown by individuals in service to athletics that they receive such an award.

“I’d like to thank them again for what they have done and hope that they enjoy celebrating this recognition with their family and friends as well as the wider athletics family.”
