Athletics Recognised in King’s New Year’s Honours List

UK Athletics congratulates all recognised by the New Year’s Honour List announced tonight.

Following a stellar 2024 with success at both Olympic and Paralympic Games, athletes from both events have received worthy recognition.

Leading the way receiving a CBE is nine-time Paralympic gold medallist Hannah Cockroft, who continued her dominant career in Paris by once again taking T34 100m and 800m gold. She is accompanied by Paralympic teammate Sammi Kinghorn who won five medals in Paris including T53 100m gold – and is awarded an OBE for her services to the sport.

Olympic 800m gold medallist and BBC Sports Personality of the Year Keely Hodgkinson receives an MBE to top off an amazing year, whilst her teammates, heptathlon Olympic silver medallist and two-time World Champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson and 2019 World 200m champion and three-time Olympic medallist Dina Asher-Smith also receive MBEs.

Sabrina Fortune – 2024 Paralympic F20 shot put gold medallist is also in receipt of an MBE. Fortune won bronze in the 2016 event and is also three-time World para athletics champion in the same event.

Finally there is a MBE for highly regarded Scottish Athletics official Sandra Hardacre from Livingston AC.

Congratulations to all for this fantastic recognition.
