Athletics Recognised In New Year's Honours List Announcement

 

Representatives from athletics have once again received recognition in the New Year’s Honours list unveiled today.

Tom Bosworth, who retired from his superb race walking career in Summer 2022 receives an MBE in recognition for his services to racewalking. Bosworth enjoyed a remarkable career in the race walks and will go down in the record books as one of the country’s most successful athletes in the discipline.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medallist in the 20km race walk, competed at the Olympic Games in Rio and Tokyo, his best performance was his sixth-place finish on the Copacabana in Brazil in 2016, and he achieved seventh place finishes at the World Championships (2019) and European Championships (2018) during his illustrious career.

Also recognised with an MBE is Joslyn Hoyte-Smith – current Chair of the GB Olympians Association – for services to athletics. Hoyte-Smith won Bronze at the Moscow Olympics as part of the 4x400m relay team, as well as Commonwealth Gold for the 4x400m relay in 1978. She also won an individual Bronze in 1982 over the 400m.

Finally, awarded as Medallists of the Order of the British Empire were coach at City of Portsmouth AC Bronwin Carter, Newcastle AC (County Down) Chair Deon McNeilly and Richard Townsend from Milton Keynes AC.
