ATHLETICS REPRESENTATIVES RECEIVES RECOGNITION IN THE KING'S BIRTHDAY HONOURS LIST 2023

The King’s Birthday Honours List 2023 sees several athletics representatives receive recognition for their services to the sport.

Ian Malcolm Rogers, a highly respected athletics official in the UK, has been awarded with the honour of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to the sport spanning more than 50 years. Rogers is an ever-present fixture at major athletics events in the UK and has not missed an event since 2002.

That covers 11 different events across the entire athletics competition calendar including World and European Championships and Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games, in a role of either Competition Director or Competition Administration Manager.

He was Athletics Competition Director for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics and, while the athlete performances are immediately felt and remembered, Malcolm’s impact from being part of those Games is being felt year on year ever since.

Recipients of the British Empire Medal (BEM) include John Griffiths of Swansea Harriers Athletics. John is a club coach and he has been recognised for his services to athletics in Wales.

Bryan Smith, also a coach in the sport, receives a BEM for services to athletics in Watford.

Jonathan Sanderson also receives at BEM for services to Athletics and to the community in Telford and The Wrekin, Shropshire.

England Athletics chair Gary Shaughnessy has been awarded a CBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List. Gary, who is also chair of the Board of Trustees at both Parkinson’s UK and Z Zurich Foundation, received his honour in recognition of his contribution to business and charity.
