Athletics Represented In The Queen's Birthday Honours List

9 June 2018

Representatives from athletics have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2018 published this morning.

Gordon Robertson has been awarded with a MBE for his services to disability athletics, working as a volunteer coach and playing a significant role at the Glasgow-based Red Star AC, a leading club in Scotland for athletes with disabilities.

Robertson is also a five-time Paralympic medallist, winning medals at the 1984, 1988 and 1996 Games; two silver and three bronze medals.

Alex Jackson is already an honorary life member of Scottish Athletics, and has been awarded an MBE for his services to cross country running in Scotland. A keen runner himself, he has been involved in Ferranti AC since the 1970s. In the 1980s, he took on a role as secretary of the East District cross country league which is a position he still holds today. He has also played a key role in the delivery of the Scottish cross-country championships for many years.

1990 Commonwealth 800m champion Diane Modahl has also been awarded an MBE for services to Sport and Young People in North West England via the Diane Modahl foundation.
