The Local Organising Committee of this year’s inaugural Athletics World Cup have today marked 100 days to go until the tournament with the formal opening of a ticketing ballot at 10am this morning.

Open to those who registered an interest in the tournament following its grand reveal on February 5, the ticketing ballot window offers the opportunity to purchase tickets for July’s event, with the excitement around the tournament evident based on the record 250,000 ticket requests received by the LOC as of last week.

What? An eight-nation head-to-head competition, with points for places (8 points for victory followed by 7-1 points for places second to eighth respectively) culminating in the inaugural Athletics World Cup champions being crowned on Sunday 15 July 2018
Who? Great Britain & Northern Ireland, Poland, Germany, South Africa, China, Jamaica, USA, France
Why these eight nations specifically? Featuring all field and track events up to and including the 1500m, the Athletics World Cup will star the world’s eight leading athletics nations over those disciplines based on the 2017 world ranking points.

The event will showcase eight nations competing across an exciting, jam-packed two days. With an innovative new format, the Athletics World Cup will feature all field and track events up to and including the 1500m, with just one man and one woman from each nation in each discipline selected to compete in all-straight final events.

The 2018 edition of the event will take place on 14 and 15 of July and with Great Britain & Northern Ireland, USA, France, Germany, Poland, China, South Africa and Jamaica participating. Each nation will compete for a share of the $2million prize pot as well as the inaugural World Cup trophy.

Certain to build on the success of London 2017 which saw the capital become the first city ever to stage both the World Para Athletics and IAAF World Athletics Championships in the same year, fans of the sport will once again see the best countries competing in the UK when the Athletics World Cup heads to the London Stadium.

In partnership with the Mayor of London’s #BehindEveryGreatCity campaign, the first edition will also see all nations select a female athlete as team captain.
