Awards For Clubs

23 March 2010

The results for the Power of 10 club awards for performances during 2009 have been revealed with a number of clubs demonstrating excellence in their specialist event areas.

Each year he Power of 10 recognises the UK clubs that have performed best in the following event areas: Speed, Endurance, Jumps, Throws, Combined Events and overall.

The Clubs that have come out on top in these areas are:

  • Windsor Slough, Eton and Hounslow – for Speed, Throws and Overall

  • Aldershot Farnham & District – for Endurance

  • Sale Harriers Manchester – for Jumps

  • City of Stoke – for Combined Events

For each event area, the club will receive £500 towards further supporting the development of coaches.

UKA Strategic Head of Coaching and Development Kevin Tyler said:

“This fabulous achievement by these clubs is the product of many hours of focused work from their dedicated volunteers and I am delighted to be able to forward the award in recognition of their achievements in these event areas, which is especially fitting in our Year of the Coach.

We now want to continue to celebrate and recognise the commitment and dedication of our coaches within clubs across the UK. Part of this will be achieved through the Power of 10 awards at club level, but in addition, our Year of the Coach activity on a monthly basis, including Coach of the Month awards – primarily recognition of the work of an accredited coach through a feature based interview – regular athlete interviews to demonstrate the athlete-coach pairing philosophy, and the opportunity for coaches to showcase their own coaching practice through submission of video footage to uCoach, will further support the ongoing communication of the excellent work taking place across the UK .”
