Backley Joins UKA Council

UKA today announced that Steve Backley, OBE has been appointed as Interim Vice President of the UK Members Council. The former javelin world record holder will take up the vacant post with immediate effect and will continue in the role until elections later in the year.

Backley’s invitation to join the council came from President Lynn Davies with full support of the other members. Commenting on the appointment Davies said:

"I am delighted to welcome Steve as Interim Vice President of the Members Council. His experience and insight as one of this country’s finest athletes will be invaluable. As the custodian of the long-term interests of athletics in the UK, it is important that the Members Council has input from those who have excelled on the highest stage."

Backley added: "It is a tremendous honour for me to take up this interim role on the UK Members Council and a great opportunity to contribute to the future of the athletics. I am looking forward to working with Lynn and the members who represent all areas of the sport."
