Bain And Wallace Triumph In The Field

28 March 2017

On the final day of action at the Sharjah International Open meeting, there were victories for Joshua Bain (coach: David Parker) and Vanessa Wallace (Alison O’Riordan) in the field.

Bain has enjoyed a successful week in the UAE, with two podium finishes at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix last week, and now reaching the top of the rostrum at the Sharjah meet. He earned the win in the F37 discus with a season best of 44.72m in the fourth round. Bain, who won European bronze medallist in 2016, had two further 40m plus efforts on his way to victory.

Wallace won in Fazaa last week and was back to winning ways in Sharjah, with a best of 7.29m in the F34 shot put. It was her third furthest throw of her career, and it was a mark that gave the London-based athlete optimism after a consistent series which included a 7.21m and 7.27m throws

F41 discus thrower Holly Neill (Andrew Roda) rounded off the field event action at the competition, her best of 22.47m in round three leaving her fifth overall in the combined F37/38/41/44/46 discus event.

On the track, Andrew Small (T33) and Nate Williams (T34) (both Rick Hoskins) ended a busy three days of action with the T33/34 200m. Williams was third in a lifetime best of 30.58 (-0.4) with fellow Stockport Harrier Small equalling the personal best which he set in Fazaa last week, stopping the clock at 31.76 (-0.4).
