BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND UPDATE

Lynsey Sharp (coach: Terrance Mahon) produced arguably her best run of the year as she finished second in 1.59.90, beating the European champion Nataliya Prishchepa and the rest of a high quality field. Meghan Beesley (Michael Baker) continued her fine run of form as she finished third over the 400m hurdles in 56.18, her training Kirsten McAslan (Baker) second in the B race in 57.68.

In the 400m flat Anyika Onuora (Rana Reider) was third in 52.33 with Laviai Nielsen (Christine Bowmaker) fourth in 52.85. Martyn Rooney (Graham Headman) was also fourth in the men’s race in 46.13, whilst Guy Learmonth (Henry Gray) was sixth in the 800m in 1.47.04.

In the sprints Imani-Lara Lansiquot (Steve Fudge) edged out Daryll Neita (Jonas Dodoo) in a close run 100m, the pair third and fifth in 11.24 (+0.9) and 11.26 respectively. In the men’s long jump Dan Bramble (Frank Attoh) and Feron Sayers (Aston Moore) were fourth and fifth with best marks of 7.73m (-0.5) and 7.68m (-0.1).

Blackburn Harrier Holly Bradshaw (coach: Scott Simpson) finished fourth in a world-class pole vault competition, which was ultimately won by American Katie Negeotte in a personal best of 4.80m. With a clean card up to 4.60m, Bradshaw ultimately bowed out at 4.70m, a height that only three women could clear on the day.

Mid Cheshire 5K, Kingsley, 23 August

Running on the roads on Thursday night on a flat, fast Cheshire course, Marc Scott (Jerry Schumacher) once again showcased his fine form, winning by a proverbial country mile in 13.45, the fastest road 5km run in this country by a Brit this decade.

Motonet GP, Lappeenranta, Finland, 23 August

Ashleigh Nelson (Michael Afilaka) took 200m victory in a strong 23.27 (-0.6), not far outsider her personal best of 22.94 set earlier this summer, whilst Alicia Barrett (Toni Minichiello) was fifth in the 100m hurdles in 13.73 (-0.8). Nathan Douglas (Aston Moore) was third in the triple jump with a best of 16.14 (0.1).

Memoriał Kamili Skolimowskiej, Chorzow, Poland, 22 August

Eilidh Doyle (Brian Doyle) took victory out in Poland, swapping the hurdles for a flat 400m. Surprisingly in the B race the Scot was an impressive winner, stopping the clock at 51.87, just outside her season’s best. In the men’s equivalent Rabah Yousif (Carol Williams) was fourth, just dipping inside 46 seconds.

Sarah McDonald (David Harmer) was in fine form once again, finishing third over 1500m, just a fraction of a second outsider her personal best set at the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham last weekend; this time out she ran 4.03.36. Asha Philip (Fudge) was fifth in the 100m in 11.42 (-0.1) whilst Chris Baker (Graham Ravenscroft) was tied fourth in the high jump with a 2.15m clearance.
