Bar Set For Women's High Jump At Sainsbury's British Championships

1 July 2015

Commonwealth Games silver medallist Isobel Pooley (coach: Fayyaz Ahmed) will hope to defend her British title this weekend (3-5 July) at the Sainsbury’s British Championships but she will face a stern test from multi-eventer in  and double World Junior gold medallist Morgan Lake (Eldon Lake).

Pooley jumped a season’s best of 1.94m at the European Team Championships in Cheboksary to achieve the World Championships A standard and draw her level with Lake on season’s bests.

Nottingham-based Pooley said: “We had adverse weather conditions last year (at the Sainsbury’s British Championships) and I responded well to that challenge. You have to embrace the challenges and you don’t want to walk away with an (easy) win because it sort of devalues it. If I do win it will be really hard-earned.

“I’d like to get 1.94 again at least to attain automatic selection. I think that would feel amazing, to know on the day that I’m going to Beijing and have that in my pocket.

“The title is a massive deal, it’s always fantastic to be a champion, not just a winner but a champion. So that is a huge target especially with the domestic field as strong as it is. To jump high in front of a home crowd would be amazing.”
