Kare Adenegan (coach: Job King, club: Coventry Godiva) was been crowned Young Sportsperson of the Year at the annual British Ethic Diversity Sports Awards (BEDSA) last weekend.

After a breakthrough 2018, T34 athlete Adenegan received two nominations in the Young Sportsperson of the Year category, and the Sportswoman of the Year category, the latter won by England Netball Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Ama Agbeze.

The Coventry Godiva athlete’s standout moments came as she lowered the 100m world record at the Müller Anniversary Games, stopping the clock in 16.80s (0.5) to take nearly four tenths off Hannah Cockroft’s previous record, and over half a second off her own personal best.

She followed that success up in Berlin at the World Para Athletics European Championships as she took gold in the T34 100m, before returning to the track three days later and winning silver in the T34 800m.

She was also crowned BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year and shared the British Athletics Writers Association (BAWA) Female Para Athlete of the Year, alongside Sophie Hahn.
