Day Three- Morning Session

As the World Junior Championships continue Meghan Beesley (Birchfield Harriers) hits the standard left by 100m silver medallist Ashlee Nelson yesterday, as she stormed through to the final of the women’s 400m hurdles with a run incredibly different to her shaky heat yesterday.

The Midlands athlete’s time was second fastest on the all time UK Junior rankings and places her third on the senior age group rankings for this year.

Other performances include:

In the first event of the morning Daniel Gardiner(Leeds) continued his decathlon campaign, finishing fourth in the first heat of the men’s 110m hurdles. His time of 15.65 (-0.9m/s) left him in eighth place overall in the rankings.

In the men’s pole vault Scott Huggins (Blackheath & Bromley) bowed out of the competition at 4.90m having failed to reach 5.00m three times. This will be a disappointment to Huggins who cleared 5.10m earlier this season at the Loughborough International.

The second of the two Brit pole vaulters, Andrew Marsh (City of Stoke), qualified for the final on his third and final attempt at 5.10. He will compete again on Saturday 12 July.

A strong run from sixteen year old Shaunna Thompson (Sale) took her across the line first in the women’s 200m. Her winning run of 23.85 (-1.5m/s) will give her confidence going into the semi-final this afternoon.

The second event of the decathlon on day two saw Daniel Gardiner(Leeds) finish sixth in the first of two qualification rounds in the discus. He started with 39.76m, then found extra to throw 40.95, before a failed last attempt.
