Despite some unfavourable conditions at the IPC Grand Prix in Berlin, there were some strong performances from the British contingent that traveled to Germany.

There was a British one two in the men’s F42/44 discus with Aled Davies (coach: Anthony Davies) continuing his rich vein of form with a best throw of 45.95m (1030 points), with GB & NI teammate Dan Greaves (Jim Edwards) just one point behind with a season’s best throw of 58.27m (1029 points). Davies, who has been named Welsh captain for the Commonwealth Games also took victory in the F42 shot put with a best throw of 14.23m.

World high jump silver medallist Jonathan Broom-Edwards (Fuzz Ahmed) continues to go from strength to strength winning the F42 high jump clearing a new personal best of 2.09m, while GB & NI veteran Graeme Ballard (Tabo Huntley) won the T36 100m in a time of 12.44.  

London 2012 silver medallist Stef Reid (Rana Reider) was again in great form ahead of this summer’s IPC European Championships in Swansea going out to 5.29m in the T44 long jump, while Paul Blake (Rob Ellchuk) took top spot in the T36 400m.  

Newcomer Derek Rae stepped down the distances to win his first para event taking a comprehensive victory in the T46 5000m posting a time of 16:40.26, while John Smith, also new to the scene impressed in the F55 seated javelin with a first place finish with a best throw of 23.01m.

World Champion Hollie Arnold (Hughes) threw a best of 36.74m to take top spot in the F46 javelin and Erin McBride (Robbie Roberts), a bronze medallist in Lyon last year recorded personal bests in the 200m (26.59) and the 400m (60.35) to finish second in both events.

There were also wins for Bev Jones (John Parkin), Stephen Morris (Chris Moss), and Holly Neill (Andrew Roda) in the F37 discus, T20/28 1500m and F41 discus respectively and also Samantha Bowen, who won the F44 discus with a best throw of 24.85m.
