The most effective athletics teamwork will be celebrated at the UK Athletics Annual Awards Dinner supported by Heidsieck & Co Monopole Champagne with the Partnership of the Year  to be announced at the event on Saturday 29 November.

The unique category which seeks to recognise and reward the sport for building partnerships and working with other groups or organisations has proved one of the most popular in recent years.

And to make sure you are there to see the winner announced on Saturday evening, you have until lunchtime on Wednesday 26 November to ensure you have booked your ticket for this weekend’s event.

The shortlist for the award is:

Preston Harriers and Fulwood High School – North West

Preston Harriers Coaches and Sports Coach students from UCLAN combined their skills to deliver an integrated indoor athletics programme for Fulwood High School and two of their feeder Primary Schools. The programme ran for six weeks and was concluded with an indoor athletics competition in which 64 pupils participated – with Preston Harriers recruiting a number of new youngsters to the club. Plans for expansion to further schools in 2009 are already underway.

East Ayrshire Local Athletics Partnership – Scotland

The EAAP consists of East Ayrshire Leisure Development Services, Education and Social Services, Kilmarnock Harriers AC and Scottish athletics. Working together they have created a framework of athletics programmes which have enabled local people to experience and participate in athletics. Schemes such as holiday programmes, coach mentoring, community run jump and throws clubs and club “come and try” events have registered record numbers across the board.

Carmarthen and DHAC and Dyfed Schools AA – Wales

Shortlisted in recognition of a long term fruitful partnership between these bodies – Carmarthen Harriers enjoys a close relationship with 300 primary and 30 secondary schools across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. The club  organises numerous events on behalf of the schools  – with 5000 primary school children benefiting each year, and at secondary level Dyfed Schools regularly dominated the local athletics scene – thanks to the close relationship in place.
