Big Weekend Ahead For Paralympic Stars

16 May 2014

Some of GB & NI’s best athletes will star in Nottwil, Switzerland on 16-18 May, as the IPC Grand Prix Series makes its second appearance of the 2014 season.

Among the athletes taking part is six-time Paralympic gold medallist David Weir (coach: Jenny Archer), who will renew his rivalry with seven-time world champion Marcel Hug as the duo lock horns in the T53/54 1500m.

There will also be a return to international racing for the double Paralympic and four-time world champion Hannah Cockroft (Jenni Banks), the 21 year old lining up in 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m. GB & NI teammate Mel Nicholls (Job King) will join Cockroft in the 200m, 400m and 800m, while also focusing on the 1500m, an event in which she holds the world record.

London 2012 T53 gold medallist Mickey Bushell (Fred Periac) will go up the distances from 100m to 800m, while Jamie Carter (Archer) goes one distance further in the 1500m to make it five races for the T34 training partner of David Weir.

Stef Reid (Rana Reider), who has enjoyed an excellent start to the season, will take to the track and field in the T43-47 100m and F37-44 long jump whilst fellow London 2012 silver medallist Shelly Woods (Archer) goes for victory in the 400m, 800m, 1500m and 5000m.

Jade Jones (Tanni Grey-Thompson/Ian Thompson) will be looking to continue her rise up the T54 ranks as the 18 year old competes in the 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m and 5000m. Meanwhile IPC World Championships bronze medallist Georgina Oliver (Paul Moseley) goes in the T54 100m, 200m and 400m.
