BLANGO OPENS SEASON WITH DOMINANT VICTORY IN DUBAI

Paralympic bronze medallist Columba Blango (Chris Zah) earned a convincing victory on day three of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai.

The Shaftesbury Barnet athlete, who also won European gold last summer, began his season in impressive fashion as he moved away from his competitors in the early stages of the race to earn an impressive win in the T20 400m.

His time of 48.53 was a solid start to the 2022 campaign for the 29-year-old who clocked a PB of 47.81 in the Paralympic final in Tokyo last year.

Elsewhere, Daniel Sidbury (Christine Parsloe, Sutton & District) lowered his personal best over 400m as he finished sixth fastest overall. In fact, Sidbury won his heat in 47.30, taking 0.04s off his previous best which he set in Bedford in 2021.

In the second heat, Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins, Kirkby AC) clocked exactly the same time as Sidbury, 47.30, for sixth in his race, and joint sixth out of 14 athletes across the two heats.

The final day of action at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix gets underway on Thursday afternoon.
