BLEASDALE AND CUTTS VICTORIOUS AT VAULT MANCHESTER

11th March 2013

Holly Bleasdale (coach: Dan Pfaff, Scott Simpson) continued her impressive start to the indoor season as she followed up her European Indoor gold medal with victory at Vault Manchester on Saturday.

Fresh from her triumph in Gothenburg, the 21 year old added 21cm to the previous record set by fellow London Olympian Kate Dennison in 2010. Bleasdale’s clearance of 4.61m also broke the stadium record at Manchester’s Sport City, and now the Olympic 6th placer will have her sights set on a World Championship medal in Moscow in August.

Cathrine Larsasen was Bleasdale’s nearest challenger, with the Norwegian clearing 4.31m on her way to second place in the competition, while Cardiff AAC’s Bryony Raine (Scott Simpson) finished in third with a best clearance of 3.91m.

In the men’s competition, a season’s best of 5.46m secured victory for former European U23 silver medallist Luke Cutts (Trevor Fox), with 2010 World Junior bronze medallist Andrew Sutcliffe (Julien Raffalli-Ebezant) 10cm behind in second place. Finland’s Salomaki Eemeli and Matthew Devereux (Alan Richardson) took a share of third place clearing 5.01m.
