Bob Ashwood Passes Away

09 August 2013

It is with great sadness that British Athletics has learnt of the passing of Bob Ashwood today.

Bob was a stalwart of the UK cross country scene, an ever present at national championships and international competitions alike. Based in the Birmingham area, Bob coached a large group of athletes until his health started to deteriorate over the last twelve months.

For the last decade Bob was also a team coach on Great Britain & Northern Ireland teams travelling to the World and European cross country championships, and his presence will be sorely missed.

British Athletics would like to pass on its condolences to Bob’s family and friends at this difficult time, but is thankful for all he has done for cross country running in this country.

Tributes have been flooding in all afternoon, with Paula Radcliffe posting on twitter:

"So sad to hear Bob Ashwood has passed away. A lovely man who we will all miss. Thoughts with his family."
