Staff and colleagues at UK Athletics have been saddened by the news of the passing of renowned coach Bob Parker.

Parker coached athletes of all ages and abilities for almost six decades including UKA board member Dave Bedford and two-time Olympian Mara Yamauchi.

Together Parker helped guide Bedford to a world record in the 10,000m while Yamauchi earned selection for the marathon at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games.

Described as an ‘old school’ coach, Parker enjoyed working with world-class athletes and youngsters in equal measure and was an inspirational figure to all that knew him.

Our thoughts are with Bob’s family at this very sad time.
