BOSWORTH EYES SUCCESS AT BRITISH ATHLETICS INDOOR TEAM TRIALS

26 December 2016

Britain’s race-walking star Tom Bosworth is already looking forward to competing at the British Athletics Indoor Team Trials on 10-11 February.

The country’s best athletes will gather in Sheffield to battle it out to secure a place on the British Athletics team for the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade as well as the honour of being crowned British champion.

Bosworth is currently dominating race-walking in the UK, breaking a string of British records and finishing a remarkable sixth place at the Olympic Games in Rio after leading for a large portion of the race.

The 26 year old is the reigning British champion both outdoors and indoors, and prevailed at the 2016 indoor championships as he won the 3000m walk in a British record 10:58.21, breaking 11 minutes for the first time.

The men’s event at this year’s British Athletics Indoor Team Trials will be contested over 5000m for the first time, and Bosworth already has his eye on re-writing his own 5000m walk British record of 18:54.18 when he lines up on 11 February.

Bosworth said: “Hopefully this time I can challenge over the 5000m to see if I can better my British record, but it’s going to be a challenge so I’m going to need all the support I can get.”

A renowned showman on the track, Bosworth has asked the Sheffield crowd to recreate the atmosphere that his powered him to previous performances on the track.

He added: “At an indoor championships the atmosphere is amazing and our British fans go absolutely wild for their favourite athletes. When you’re on for a record they support you unbelievably so I’m sure the British Athletics Indoor Team Trials is going to be another fantastic event.”
