British Athletics Joins Pinterest

27 November 2013

British Athletics officially launched its Pinterest account today, an easy to use, image driven social media platform. Described by its founders as a ‘tool for discovering things you love, and doing those things in real life’, British Athletics hopes to be able to provide it’s fans, athletes, coaches and volunteers with up to date and unique imagery, at the click of a button.

Pinterest encourages the creation of different themed boards, and to start with British Athletics will be collating content on five different boards:

  • GB & NI
  • #mudisgood
  • TV Events
  • Athletics Gift Ideas
  • Athlete of the Year

New boards are currently being devised to offer even more exciting content, with these being released over the coming months.

F44 Paralympic and IPC World discus silver medallist Dan Greaves (coach: Jim Edwards) who uses the site, commented:

“I’m relatively new to Pinterest but from what I’ve used it for, it’s a great way for social media sites to promote images you might not see on other outlets. Plenty of interesting people post interesting pictures and it allows me to see images sent in by people who support me at events such as the British Athletics Series.”

About Pinterest

Pinterest allows users to upload, save, sort and manage images, known as pins, and other media content (such as videos) with the site acting as a personalized media platform. As well as sourcing internet content or uploading their own images, users are easily able to pin other peoples content to one of their own boards using the "Pin It" button, with pin-boards typically organized by a central topic or theme.

Pinterest can also be used in conjunction with Facebook and Twitter, so that when a user re-posts or "re-pins" an image to their own board, they have the option of notifying their Facebook and Twitter followers.

On your customised Pinterest homepage, a "pin feed" appears, displaying the chronological activity from the Pinterest boards that you follow. Pinterest users can also visit pages that recommend pin-boards with content similar to their own, making it a great tool for sourcing and archiving content and interests.
