British Athletics Shortlisted For Governing Body Of The Year

17 February 2014

British Athletics has been shortlisted for the Governing Body of the Year, sponsored by the Daily Telegraph for the BT Sport Industry Awards 2014, which takes place in London on Thursday 8 May 2014.

British Cycling, ECB (England Cricket Board), England Netball, RFL (The Rugby Football League) and the FA (Football Association) make up the six-strong shortlist and recognition comes after British Athletics scooped two major awards over the last couple of months.

In November, British Athletics and Sainsbury’s won the Outstanding Team Contribution award at the International Sports Event Management Awards, before beating off European competition to claim the Rights Holder category at the European Sponsorship Association Excellence Awards two months later. This success came after the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games, the fastest selling athletics event outside major championships, which attracted some of the biggest names in Olympic and Paralympic sport from Usain Bolt to Jonnie Peacock, a year on from London 2012.

British Athletics Chief Executive Niels de Vos said:

“It is a real honour to be shortlisted by the BT Sports Industry Awards for the Governing Body of the Year for the fifth consecutive year.

“The last 12 months have been hugely successful for British Athletics, both on and off the track, which is a huge testament to all the athletes, coaches, officials, key partners, volunteers and everyone else behind the scenes, who contribute to this ongoing success.”
