Former world champion and British long distance running legend Liz Nuttall (nee McColgan) heads an exciting list of speakers at the latest British Milers’ Club coaching seminar on Sunday 19th August 2018.

It is the first time that McColgan has spoken at one of the regular BMC seminars and with the likes of her husband John Nuttall, Bud Baldaro, who last year received the organisation’s lifetime coaching achievement award and Dr Jess Piasecki (nee Coulson) also speaking, event organiser Neville Taylor hopes there will be a big-turnout at the Trafford Athletics Stadium, Manchester, on Sunday August 19th.

“Everyone will know Liz’s name but probably haven’t heard her talking about what she did in training and racing so that will be fascinating,” said Taylor. “Of course, she has also moved into coaching with her daughter Eilish, who will be competing in the European Championships, so that is another big thing.”

Nuttall, who was himself a former world class athlete now a successful coach, will speak on the issue of ‘taking athletes to international level’ while Piasecki tackles the ‘female athlete’.

“Recently there has been a lot of publicity about the female athlete, particularly in Athletics Weekly, so I spoke to Jess and she has agreed to come and talk on this important issue,” added Taylor.

Dr Richard Blagrove, who previously worked at St Mary’s University, will address the subject of ‘strength and condition for endurance athletes’ while respected sports psychologist Cassie Wood, who works at Premier League champions Manchester City, will tackle ‘matters of the mind’.

“We are always trying to ring the changes and bring in different speakers and I feel we have a very good balance for this seminar between coaches, athletes and sports science,” added Taylor.

“With Cassie we will be getting coaches to get working rather than sit and listen so that should be interesting. We do a lot of work on physical preparation but maybe neglect mental preparation but that should always be important. Overall I am very pleased with what we have on offer at the seminar.”

The seminar, which will run from 9.30am until 4.30pm, is scheduled for the day after the final BMC Grand Prix and will be held in the Longfords Function Suite at the Trafford Stadium.
