A number of Britain’s best para-athletes will compete at the England Athletics Disability Championships in Bedford this weekend. The championships form part of British Athletics’ first Parallel Success Super Series, which incorporates 12 events throughout the summer.

Hannah Cockcroft (Jenni Banks), who won two gold medals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, will step down in distance from the 400m she contested in London to compete in the T34 100m. 14 year old Kare Adenegan (Job King), who showed her promise finishing behind the multiple global gold medallist will have her sights set on testing her compatriot once again this weekend.  

After finishing behind T44 100m world record holder Richard Browne on Sunday, Paralympic champion Jonnie Peacock (Steve Fudge) will be looking to get back to winning ways with the aim of improving upon his season’s best of 10.96.

Double European champion Maria Lyle (Tabo Huntley) returns to Bedford 14 months on from breaking the T35 100m and 200m world record at the Bedford International Games. The 15 year old has started the season breaking both marks again and will be looking to continue her meteoric rise in the British ranks. Also racing over 100m are Laura Sugar (Femi Akinsanya) and Sophie Kamlish (Robert Ellchuk), who are separated by just one tenth of a second in the T44 event at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games, and Commonwealth champion Libby Clegg (Joseph McDonnell) in the T12 100m, who was victorious in the 200m on Sunday in London.

Some of Great Britain’s best male sprinters will also be in action over 100m. Fresh from moving to fifth in the world rankings with a time of 11.36 at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games, James Arnott (Ryan Freckleton) will be in the T46 100m. Meanwhile Paralympic silver medallist Graeme Ballard will be in the T36 event, Rhys Jones (Keith Antoine) will be in the T37 and Ben Rowlings (Job King) will contest the T34.

Invictus Games team captain David Henson (Roger Keller) will hope build on a strong second place finish in London, where he was second behind mentor and T42 200m champion Richard Whitehead (Keith Antoine), while the in-form Jonathan Broom-Edwards (Fuzz Ahmed) will look to challenge the world record of 2.17m. Three-time Paralympic champion Stephen Miller (Ros Miller) will be the man to beat in the F32 club throw after recording his furthest throw since 2009 in May.

Other athletes to look out for in the field events will be world champion Hollie Arnold (Anthony Hughes), world number one in the F46 javelin, and Abbie Hunnisett (Camilla Thrush), who broke the F32 European record in club throw at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games.
