British Team Ready To Compete At Senior Combined Events International Match

29 January 2016

An eight-strong British team will compete at the Senior International Combined Events Match in France this weekend.

England Indoor Combined Events senior champions Katie Stainton (coach: Kelly Sotherton) and Liam Ramsay (Mike Corden) will lead the British team in the Reims.

Stainton, coached by 2004 Olympic Heptathlon bronze medallist Kelly Sotherton, recorded a points tally of 4086 in Sheffield and after success at the U23/U20 match in 2015, she will be seeking a solid start at the senior level against teams from France, Spain and Czech Republic.

Joining Stainton in the women’s quartet are Commonwealth bronze medallist Jessica Taylor (Mike Holmes), Marilyn Nwawulor (Lloyd Cowan) and Jo Rowland (Toni Minichiello).

Ramsay won the senior England title for a second time earlier this month and heads into the event as the leading Briton. He will be joined by Futures athletes David Hall (Ian Grant), the experienced Martin Brockman (self-coached) and Jack Andrew (Ian Grant).

It is both an individual and team event so there is added incentive for the athletes as they compete against some of Europe’s best combined eventers in the indoor pentathlon (women) and indoor heptathlon (men).
