BRITS CONTINUE GOOD FORM IN TORUN AND ARMAGH

Charlie Da’Vall Grice (coach: Jon Bigg) ran himself into contention for next month’s IAAF World Indoor Championships after clocking an indoor 1500m personal best at the Copernicus Cup in Poland.

Da’Vall Grice has been in good form this indoor season finishing fourth in the Wanamaker Mile in New York and reached his best yet at the penultimate World Indoor Tour in Torun.

The 24-year-old clocked an indoor personal best of 3:39.05 minutes to finish fourth in the 1500m as Ethiopian Taresa Tolosa beat off home hope Marcin Lewandowski for victory.

Da’Vall Grice’s time was almost half a second inside the world indoor standard with this weekend’s SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham set to shape who makes the team.

Elsewhere Dina Asher-Smith (John Blackie) also ran into season’s best form as she clocked 7.14 seconds to place second in the 60m final, which was won by double world silver medallist Marie-Josee Ta Lou in 7.11.

Fellow Brit Imani Lansiquot (Steve Fudge) joined Asher-Smith in that final in Poland and continued her good start to 2018 with an indoor personal best of 7.21 for fifth place.

Meanwhile Elliot Giles (Bigg) ran an indoor personal best himself in the 800m, clocking 1:47.61 for fifth, with the national championships his next stop in Birmingham this weekend.

Adelle Tracey (Craig Winrow) ran the women’s 800m and was also fifth in 2:02.87, the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow set to conclude the IAAF World Indoor Tour on February 25.

Also on Thursday evening, the endurance community flocked to Armagh, Northern Ireland for the annual road race. A record number of men went under 15 minutes for 5km, 91 up from 77 in 2017.

Sam Stabler (Rob Denmark) captured the 5km title in 13:59 whilst there were fine performances for Laura Weightman (Steve Cram) and Jess Judd (Mick Judd) in the women’s 3km, as they finished 1-2 in times of 8:59 and 9:03 respectively.
