Brits In Lausanne

09 July 2010

Diamond League, Lausanne, July 8

There were some highly encouraging runs for British athletes in the Diamond League, with fast times and excellent performances in the approach to the European Championships.

Lisa Dobriskey (coach George Gandy) was well beaten over 1500m in the Aviva British trials but showing she is getting fitter race by race, she sensationally went top of the European rankings and of course Power of Ten, with a 4:01.83 clocking for fourth place in a race won by a world leading mark of 3:59.28 by the Ethiopian Burka.

Over 800m, Michael Rimmer (coach Norman Poole) ran a personal best and the fastest time by a British half-miler for many years (17) to go top of the Power of Ten rankings by some distance with his 1:44.49.

The Liverpool athlete finished fifth, and just missed out on being leading European to the Pole Lewandowski but he beat European champion Bram Som of Holland and now ranks second in Europe for 2010 just ahead of former Olympic champion Borzakovskiy as he moves into eighth on the UK all time lists.

Also going top of the Po10 rankings was Andy Turner (Lloyd Cowan) in the 110m hurdles. He finished a fine fourth in 13.30 just a fraction outside his PB and that places him a close third in the European lists and he beat European leader Petr Svobada of the Czeh Republic, who was disqualified.

At 400m hurdles, David Greene (Malcolm Arnold) already topped the European rankings and he consolidated his position there and the head of the Po10 rankings with a very fast 48.49, his second best ever time as he finished fifth to show he is an overwhelming favourite for Barcelona.

High jumper Samson Oni (coach Trevor Llewellyn), who tops the Po10 rankings with an indoor mark of 2.31, finished 10th with a leap of 2.24
