Holly Bradshaw (Blackburn; Scott Simpson) and Sophie Cook (Birchfield Harriers; Ray Webb) will make British team history as the inaugural Athletics World Cup, presented by Müller, gets underway at the iconic London Stadium.

Exactly one year on from the Summer of World Athletics that saw London make history and host both the best ever World Para Athletics and IAAF World Championships, Bradshaw and Cook will be introduced to the crowd for the women’s pole vault at 18:45 = as the first of 17 events on day one of the new eight-team format gets underway under the floodlights.

Olympic bronze medallist Sophie Hitchon (Blackburn; Tore Gustafsson), world indoor champion Andrew Pozzi (Stratford-upon-Avon; Benke Blomkvist) and world No.1 Lorraine Ugen (Thames Valley; Shawn Jackson) are among 12 British champions in action.

Great Britain & Northern Ireland will be battling with seven other nations – China, France, Germany, Jamaica, Poland, South Africa and USA – for the Platinum Trophy at the London Stadium with a maximum eight points on offer in each of the 34 events.

All events are straight finals with Bradshaw helping get the host nation off and running fresh from a tenth career British title while senior debutant Cook, having placed second in the Müller British Athletics Championships will represent the team as a non-scoring competitor following the non-entry by the Jamaican team.

Hitchon, who won Olympic bronze at Rio 2016, will be the next Brit introduced as she goes in the women’s hammer throw with a great duel expected between her and Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland and Deanna Price of USA.

The men’s triple jump is the next of the field events to kick of the first day of the Athletics World Cup, presented by Müller, with British champion Nathan Douglas (Oxford City; Aston Moore) back in the national team vest at the London Stadium.

The men’s shot put featuring another British champion in Scott Lincoln (City of York; Paul Wilson) will complete a quartet of field events opening the event – all set for within the first hour of competition.

Meghan Beesley (Birchfield Harriers; Michael Baker) will be the first British track athlete to compete at the event when she goes in the women’s 400m hurdles at 20:00 – again she is another champion from the highly-competitive Müller British Athletics Championships.

It will be back to the field events moments later as fellow British champion Brett Morse (Cardiff; Zane Duquemin) takes to the circle for the men’s discus at 20:05 before Olympic bronze medallist Anyika Onuora (Liverpool; Rana Reider) lines up in the women’s 400m at 20:18. Onuora is among the 12 British champions in action.

Delano Williams (Enfield & Haringey; Steven Francis) will kick start his two-event campaign with the men’s 200m at 20:27. He will return as part of the British men’s 4x400m relay team on the final day in London.

All eyes will be on world indoor and reigning British champion Pozzi at 20:37 as he goes in the men’s 110m hurdles at 20:37 before Chris Baker (Sale Harriers; Graham Ravenscroft) gets his chance in the men’s high jump at 20:42.

Baker will be the tenth British champion in action with Ugen the 11th as she takes to a new and innovative elevated runway at the London Stadium for the women’s long jump at 20:44. Ugen has been handed the honour of being British captain for the event and jumped a world lead and personal best 7.05m at the start of the month.

The women’s 1500m at 20:48 is important on several levels for Jemma Reekie (Kilbarchan; Andy Young) as she chases the European qualifying standard for the distance having finished second at the Müller British Athletics Championships. She is also making her senior Britain debut at the London Stadium.

British champion Elliot Giles (Birchfield Harriers; Jon Bigg) goes in arguably one of the best events of the Athletics World Cup, presented by Müller, with a high-quality men’s 800m line up compiled for 21:08.

Fellow British champion Laura Whittingham (Sale Harriers; Michael McNeill) is the last field event athlete to compete at 21:15 in the women’s javelin before Bianca Williams (Enfield & Haringey; LloydCowan) competes in the final individual track event, the women’s 100m, at 21:20.

The British women’s 4x400m relay team of Finette Agyapong (Newham & Essex Beagles; Coral Nourrice), Amy Allcock (Glyn Hawkes), Zoey Clark (Thames Valley; Eddie McKenna) and Emily Diamond (Bristol & West; Jared Deacon) go at 21:32.

The men’s 4x100m relay team of senior Reuben Arthur (Enfield & Haringey; Ryan Freckleton), Confidence Lawson (Shaftesbury Barnet; Clarence Callendar), Sam Gordon (Cardiff; Matt Elias) and Andrew Robertson (Sale Harriers) complete a historic day at 21:45.
