Bronze For Taylor At Senior International Match Combined Events

Commonwealth heptathlon bronze medallist Jessica Taylor (coach: Mike Holmes) was the top British performer of the weekend at the Senior International Match Combined Events in Reims, France. The 27-year-old made the individual podium, finishing third in the pentathlon with 4214 points behind Czech athletes Eliska Klucinova (4425) and Katerina Cuchina (4277).

Taylor’s individual marks were: 8.47 (60m hurdles), 1.68m (high jump), 12.39m (shot), 5.98m (long jump) and 2:19.64 (800m). The 60m hurdles time narrowly improved her previous best by 0.01 seconds. 

Jo Rowland (Toni Minichiello) was seventh with 4002 points, Katie Stainton (Kelly Sotherton) ninth with 3983 and Marilyn Nwawulor (Lloyd Cowan) finished in tenth with 3940.

The British team finished third in the women’s competition with 12,199 points – behind the Czech Republic (12,441) and France (12,376), with Spain fourth on 11,631.

Martin Brockman (self-coached) racked up a PB score of 5605 points for tenth place in the men’s heptathlon, with Jack Andrew (Ian Grant) 13th with 5375, David Hall 15th with 5259 and Liam Ramsay (Mike Corden) 16th with 5123 after a no height in the pole vault. Britain finished fourth in both the men’s standings.

Brockman’s series included his quickest ever time over 1000m, the final event of the competition, recording 2:40.32 to beat his previous best by just under two seconds. In addition to his 1000m times, his other individual marks were: 7.35 (60m), 7.08m (Long Jump), 13.45 (Shot Put), 1.97m (High Jump), 8.70 (60m Hurdles) and Pole Vault (4.82m).

The British team finished fourth overall with a combined score of 28,438 points with Czech Republic taking the victory in the International Match with 29,694.
