London 2012 Olympian Abdul Buhari (coach: John Hillier) has this weekend announced his retirement from athletics. The Newham & Essex Beagle, who boasts a discus personal best of 65.44m under the tutelage of Mark Wiseman, issued this statement to family and friends:

“I have decided to retire from athletics as of today. This has not been an easy decision however l feel it is the right one for me.

“I would like to thank my wife, family, friends, coaches, clubs, agents, British Athletics and sponsors namely Nike, USN, GLL, London Eye, Tim Alladyce Physio Clinic that have supported me throughout my career.  My journey would not have been as fun and successful without the help and support of you all.

“This is the end of an era but the beginning of the next chapter, which I am very much looking forward to. I will continue my involvement with athletics in some form in the future.”
