Hannah Cockroft (coach: Jenni Banks; club: Halifax), Sammi Kinghorn (Ian Mirfin; Red Star) and Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins; Halton & Frodsham) were among the top British stars at the Daniela Jutzeler Memorial in Arbon last night.

Cockroft kicked off her first of three races with a 30.77s (0.9) T34 200m time, just over two tenths outside her own personal best world record from 2017 on the same track.

She followed that up with an 800m triumph in a season’s best 1:57.75, and won the women’s 100m in 17.45s (0.3) to complete a perfect day.

Kinghorn continued her return to form with a 55.64s T53 400m time, following it up with a 1:52.61 showing in the 800m and a 16.91s (0.2) 100m time, seven tenths outside her best.

Maguire continued his excellent start to 2019 as he set a new personal bests in the T54 100m and the 400m, the former with a favourable wind behind him. He stopped the clock at 14.50s (1.4) and hit 46.26s for the 400m.

His other event, the 800m, saw him home in 1:33.33, topping the overall standings after all the races were completed. In a separate race to American world record holder Daniel Romanchuk, he pushed to a magnificent time which was a major highlight of a stellar day for Maguire.

In the A race, fellow Briton Richard Chiassaro (Jenni Banks) hit a season’s best of 1:34.29 in the same event, adding to his own 400m season’s best of 45.55s, a strong day for the Harlow athlete.

There was more success in the men’s T33 200m races as Dan Bramall (Peter Wyman; Stockport) set a personal best of 31.58s (0.7) to beat Andrew Small (Rick Hoskins; Stockport) in the 200m, before the former won the 400m in a shade outside his season’s best, clocking 61.64s.

Small turned the tables in the 100m, winning in 17.46s (0.7) with Bramall second in 17.67s (0.7), securing himself a second personal best of the day, again in favourable conditions. European T33 100m champion Harri Jenkins (DSW Para Academy) was third in 18.64s (0.7).

Mickey Bushell (Rick Hoskins; Birchfield) took victory in the T53 200m in 28.14s (0.0), adding a 15.50s (-0.2) 100m performance that saw him finish fifth.

Ben Rowlings notched his best 400m time since 2017 as he won the men’s T34 event in 51.85s, just 0.02s off his best, with Isaac Towers (Peter Wyman; Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde) clocking a respectable 53.28s also.

The duo went head-to-head again in the 800m, with Rowlings stopping the clock in 1:40.89 and Towers in 1:43.51, big season’s bests for both.
