Cohen Named As Technical Delegate For Zurich 2014

Chris Cohen has been named as a Technical Delegate for the 2014 European Championships in Zurich.

The senior post places him in charge of overseeing all technical positions during the championships and he is now part of a panel of 13 individuals appointed for work in televised European Athletics events for the period 2014-2017.

The announcement follows his appointment as the Chair of Jury of Appeal during the Nassau Relays this coming outdoor season. The role puts him in charge of any protests made by athletes, coaches or federations regarding a decision made by an official during the inaugural IAAF World Relay Championships in May.

The former Derbyshire schools athlete switched to coaching following an injury when he was 25 that prevented him from competing. He soon turned his hand to officiating and in 1979 had his first taste of disability athletics when he was asked to help at an event in Stoke Mandeville.

Progressing through the ranks, Chris has now officiated at eight Paralympic Games, many of which he has been appointed Technical Delegate for.

A past Chairman of the Athletics Sports Assembly Executive Committee, he also acted as Chairman of IPC Athletics for almost 20 years.

Chris was awarded a CBE in the 2010 New Year’s Honours list in recognition of his services to sport.
