Combined Events Indoor International Match

24 January 2014

A 20-strong GB & NI team will compete at the Combined Events Indoor International Match at the EIS in Sheffield on Saturday and Sunday, 25-16 January. The British team will face the Czech Republic, France, The Netherlands and Spain in the senior events with the junior and under 23 teams going up against Spain and France.

The GB & NI team will be headlined by Morgan Lake (coach: Eldon Lake) who will line up as favourite in the junior women’s pentathlon. The 16 year old, who won eight national titles throughout 2013, set a personal best of 4146 in Sheffield earlier this month, second only to Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Mike Holmes) in the British junior all-time lists.

The senior men’s heptathlon competition is likely to be highly competitive with four 8,000 point decathletes taking part. British number one Ashley Bryant (Ian Grant), who was selected for the IAAF World Championships in Moscow last summer, will face the likes of French champion Bastien Auzeil and Pelle Rietveld, who finished fourth in the World Junior Championships.

However, John Lane (Toni Minichiello) will go to Sheffield in great form and will be looking to break the 5,800 point barrier.

The senior women’s pentathlon will contain Nadine Broersen of Holland, who was tenth in the heptathlon in Moscow last August. Leading the GB & NI team will be Grace Clements (Grant) and Karla Drew (Minichiello) who are both contenders for a place at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

21 year old Liam Ramsey (Mike Corden) scored 5560 in his first heptathlon to finish third at the national senior championships and will have a great chance in the under 23 men’s age group.

Tickets are £6.60 each (including booking fee) and can be purchased via SIV Tickets on www.sivtickets.com or on 0114 223 3777.
