Danvers Targets Super8

10 May 2010

Britain’s Olympic 400m hurdles Bronze Medallist Tasha Danvers has confirmed Super8 2010 will form a key part of her  track campaign this summer.

Danvers, who skippered London South to the team title in 2009, will return as London’s captain at the Glasgow event on Wednesday 7 July and will confirm her discipline nearer the time to get the best possible preparation for the rest of her season.

Despite the frustration of ending last year’s Super8 competition with injury, Danvers is delighted to be able to  compete in front of a British crowd again.

"After a good spell of warm weather training in San Diego, California, I am ready to get out there and race again, Super8 is a great concept and I hope the people of Glasgow give us their full support!” she said.

"I’m also so proud to be given the opportunity to captain the London team once again – As London South captain we took the title last year and now I have both sides of the city to call upon for my team.

“Super8 in Cardiff was really well received by all the athletes last year and it was just unfortunate for me that I got injured, injuries are part of the sport and they can happen anywhere. I’m looking forward to leading London this year to hopefully another team title. I hope the London athletes will come out in force and be proud to represent their city. As a young athlete I loved representing London Schools, so it’s great as a senior athlete to represent London and be part of a successful team!”

The London North and London South teams will this year be represented by one joint London team. The other seven cities to confirm their participation in Super8 2010 are: hosts Glasgow, Gateshead, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Cardiff and Plymouth.

This year’s Super8 will mark the inaugural event at Glasgow’s newly refurbished Scotstoun stadium.
