Devonish And Sayers To Skipper Squads

200m runner Marlon Devonish and javelin thrower Goldie Sayers have been awarded captain status for this weekend’s European Cup contests. Devonish will lead the men’s team in the Super League match in Munich, Germany where the men will seek to cement their place amongst the continent’s elite athletics nations.

Sayers will head up the women’s push to regain elite status from the First League Group A match in Vaasa, Finland.  There have been some late changes to both teams.  Earlier in the week, Ben Carne stepped in to replace David Greene in the men’s 400m hurdles.  He will now be joined by fellow GB & NI senior debutant Chris Kirk, who steps in for Chris Tomlinson in the long jump, who has pulled out due to a bruised heel.

Also entering the fray in Munich is Frank Tickner, who takes over from another late withdrawal Chris Thompson in the 5000m.  In the women’s team, Barbara Parker is a late addition in the 3000m, after Lisa Dobriskey pulled out due to flu.
