World medal contender Lisa Dobriskey plans to use the showcase Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham on February 21 as a stepping stone to the podium at the World Championships.

The 1500m runner is dealing with new-found expectation after a hugely promising fourth place at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

The 24-year-old is now setting her targets on next year’s World Championships, which take place in Berlin in August.

And she hopes the meeting at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena will provide her with a chance to gain an early season confidence boost, despite it being a venue she has not been at her best at in the past.

Dobriskey said: “Sometimes I have felt that I have slightly underperformed in Birmingham, so I currently have mixed emotions when I run there. I have raced there lots of times, so I’m quite familiar with it, but it would be great to have a breakthrough run there for me this year. It’s a good venue and it would be great for the Birmingham public to get behind me and push me on.
