DUbai IPC Grand Prix Round-up

Last weekend saw a number of GB & NI stars headline the first event of the IPC Grand Prix Series in Dubai.

The series, which will finish in Birmingham on Monday 25 August started with some strong performances from the British contingent as Maria Lyle (coach: Henry Gray) claimed a world record in the T35/36 200m clocking a time of 31.01. The 14 year old completed an impressive double, winning the T35 100m in 14.58.

London 2012 T36 silver medallist Graeme Ballard also completed a sprint double with victory in the T36 100m (12.30) and the T36 200m (25.65). Finishing a close second behind Ballard was world 800m gold medallist Paul Blake (Rob Ellchuk), who crossed the line in a time of 12.58. Blake also contested the T36/37/38, where the Bath-based athlete finished in third place (56.03) in his first competitive 400m of the season.

World T44 200m bronze medallist Sophie Kamlish (Ellchuk) finished in third in both the T44/46/47 100m and T37/38/44/46 200m, while Katrina Hart (Ellchuk) posted a time of 14.44 in the T37-38 100m to finish 0.02 behind Egypt’s Amal Youssef.

Three-time Paralympic gold medallist Stephen Miller (Rosalynd Miller) was second in the F31/32/51 club throw with a best distance of 28.11m.
