World 4x400m bronze medallist Eilidh Child (coach: Malcolm Arnold) has confirmed that she will compete at

Child, who finished fifth in the 400m hurdles in Moscow and also won European Indoor silver over 400m earlier this year, will join her compatriot Laura Muir (Andy Young) at the Emirates Arena, when the 2014 British Athletics Series gets underway.

In the first major international sporting event in the city before the Commonwealth Games, the 26 year old from Perthshire is excited to return to the city’s indoor arena after finishing fourth in the 400m at the start of this year.

“I can’t wait to go back and compete at the Glasgow British Athletics International Match. I was fortunate to run at the first ever meet staged at the Arena in 2013 in front of a sell-out crowd.

“There’s a great history behind this event, with some of the best international and British athletes competing in the city over the last 20 years or so, and I’m sure that next year will create some more memories.”

After a successful 2013, which also included being named Scottish Athlete of the Year, Child will be looking to upgrade on the silver medal she won at the Commonwealth Games in 2010. However, the Bath-based athlete is focused first and foremost on running in front of a home crowd at the turn of the year.

“Competing in front a home Scottish crowd is a big thing for me and I’m sure the atmosphere will be electric again just like it was last year. 2014 is massive year for sport in Glasgow and I’m sure the Glasgow British Athletics International Match will kick it off with a bang.

"I finished fourth at the meet last year, and I’ll be looking to put in a strong performance to show that I’ll be a force to be reckoned with when the summer comes.

“2013 was a great year for me, medalling in Gothenburg, the world championships and individually lowering my times in both the 400m and 400m hurdles. I’m hoping to continue this trend next year with the aim of going one better in Glasgow than I did in Delhi three years ago.

“The indoor season presents me with the platform to build towards the Commonwealth Games, and I see no better place than the Glasgow British Athletics International Match to get my season underway.”
