100m hurdler Cindy Ofili and sprinter Zharnel Hughes are eligible to compete for Great Britain & Northern Ireland at future championships with immediate effect.

Ofili is the younger sister of GB & NI’s world bronze medallist Tiffany Porter and recorded the seventh fastest time in the world this year over 100m hurdles with a 12.60 personal best clocking in Eugene – just 0.04 slower than Porter, who is seven years her senior.

The 20 year old, who has held British nationality since her birth said: “It has always been my intention to opt for GB, especially having seen my sister compete for Team GB in the London Olympics.  I just hope to be good enough to now earn the right to be selected based on my performances.”

Anguillan-born Hughes meanwhile is eligible to compete for GB & NI as the British overseas territory is not recognised by the International Olympic Committee. The Pan American Junior 100m gold medallist has started 2015 in fine form finishing just three-hundredths of a second behind six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt in the 200m at the most recent IAAF Diamond League in New York.

“I have always known that if I was to run at the Olympics it would be in a British vest and that is how I have always dreamt it would be.”

High jumper Victoria Dronsfield, 400m hurdler Shante Little and 400m runner Montene Speight are also eligible to compete for GB with the trio all holding British nationality.
