Jessica Ennis-Hill (coach: Toni Minichiello) will return to the scene of her Olympic triumph as one of the star attractions as the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games reopens the Olympic Stadium next Friday alongside other global icons of the sport including Usain Bolt and Mo Farah.  

The heptathlon star will compete in the 100m hurdles where the quality of the IAAF Diamond League event will pit her against the world’s best as she seeks to push herself to her limits as part of her build up towards the IAAF World Championships in Beijing. She will then return on Saturday afternoon to compete again in the long jump and the 200 metres.

The London 2012 champion has admitted that the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games will be a crucial test, as she continues to build up her competitive form, following her return after the birth of her baby last year.

Ennis-Hill said: "I’m really excited to be competing on both days at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games. It’s been two years since I last competed in a Diamond League, the highest standard of competition in athletics."

"To be back competing at this level is a daunting test as it’s only my fourth competition of the year. The events will be tough with great international and domestic fields, but i need to find out if I will be ready for Beijing and then ultimately Rio."

The Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games includes a two-day Diamond League meeting on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th July, with the Sainsbury’s IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final taking place on Sunday 26th July.

The event takes place just four weeks before the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing and will be the final time the original London 2012 track is used, before a new surface is laid for the London 2017 World Championships.

British Athletics have secured the right to host athletics in the former Olympic Stadium for one month every year for the next 50 years from 2016.
