Ennis Misses Aviva European Trials

25 June 2010

World heptathlon gold medallist Jessica Ennis has been forced to withdraw from this weekend’s Aviva European Trials and UK Championships due to illness.

Ennis (coach:Toni Minichiello) was set to compete in the high jump, long jump and 100m hurdles this weekend, in a thrilling attempt at a UK championship treble.

However the Sheffield athlete has been advised by the UKA medical team to rest with what appears to be a virus.

Ennis said:

“I’m devastated to be missing this weekend in Birmingham. I love competing there and I am in such awesome shape, I was so looking forward to it.

“I had a really great session yesterday morning where everything was on track, then started to feel ill soon after. I’ve been advised to rest for three or four days.

“I’m really gutted – I just want to wish everyone the best for this weekend and for them to know I’ll be watching and cheering them on from home.”
