Kevin Tyler, UKA’s Strategic Head of Coaching and Development said: “We are delighted to announce the 1st European Race Walking Conference – the first of two major coaching conferences to be held in the UK this autumn as part of the European Athletics Coaching Summit Series – at the home of race walking in the UK in Leeds.

“The UKA National Centre for Race Walking brings together a number of essential ingredients for athletics success including high quality coaching, great facilities and sports science and medical back up and we are fortunate to be able to celebrate all of those key components across one weekend in November which is fantastic.”

In addition to the European Race Walking Conference, the European Sprints and Hurdles Conference, hosted by UKA, England Athletics and the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund, will take place on 13/14 November in London (Heathrow).

Confirmed speakers at the event – the final event in the European Athletics 2010 Summit Series – include internationally renowned sport scientist Dr Ralph Mann, Director of USA Track & Field’s Elite Athlete Sprint and Hurdle Programme, and UK-based coaches Malcolm Arnold and Dan Pfaff. Booking details will be published on www.uka.org.uk/coaching from Friday 17 September and additional speakers will be confirmed in due course.

The European Athletics Coaching Summit Series was launched in 2008 in response to the demand from coaches for practice-oriented conferences focused on a small number of disciplines. The summits are organised by federations and other national partners with support from European Athletics. The aim of the series is to cover all the athletics disciplines in a two to three year cycle.
