EVENT SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED FOR GLASGOW

17 December 2013

In the first major international sporting event of 2014 before the Commonwealth Games, some of the world’s best athletes will head to the Emirates Arena for the Glasgow British Athletics International Match on Saturday 25 January.

For the first time in the event’s 23 year history, a Scottish team will take to the track against GB & NI, USA and a Commonwealth Select team. World 4x400m relay bronze medallist Eilidh Child (coach: Malcolm Arnold) will captain the Scotland team as the 26 year old lines up in the 400m, while Moscow teammate Jamie Bowie (Piotr Haczek) lines up in the male equivalent.

Scottish native record holder Allan Smith (Fuzz Ahmed) will go up against a competitive high jump field, which includes Olympic silver medallist Erik Kynard and Olympic bronze medallist and European Champion Robbie Grabarz (Ahmed).

Olympic 800m finalist Andrew Osagie (Craig Winrow) will make a second consecutive appearance at the Emirates Arena in the 600m, as the 25 year old lines up against Scotland’s Guy Learmonth (George Gandy).

2003 world champion Kim Collins, who continues to break personal bests into his 38th year, will be looking to do just that at the Glasgow British Athletics International Match as the veteran races in the rarely run 150m. Another sprinter that will be looking to continue his rich vein of form is James Dasaolu (Steve Fudge), as the world 100m finalist looks to replicate the 60m performance that saw him crowned European Indoor silver medallist earlier this year.

After setting a new 1500m personal best of 3:35.37 in July, IAAF World Championship finalist Chris O’Hare (Steve Gulley) returns from the USA to wear the Scottish vest, while European U23 1500m bronze medallist Laura Muir (Andy Young) tackles the 800m at the Emirates Arena.

Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford (Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo) will take to the infield for the long jump, while there is an intriguing battle in the men’s 3000m with European Cross Country bronze medallist Andy Vernon (Nic Bideau) taking on World Indoor gold and silver medallists Bernard Lagat and Augustin Choge.

Another milestone for the event will see para-athletes contributing to the overall team score after their initiation at the event in 2013. T44 100m world record holder Richard Browne will lead USA’s hopes in the 60m, while Scotland’s Libby Clegg (Keith Antoine) and Stef Reid (Rana Reider) will line up in the T12 60m and T44 long jump respectively.
