Mo Farah (Coach: Alberto Salazar) was the pick of the Brits on a Friday night in Monaco as he set a National record and world leading mark over the 5000m with a dominant victory.

Farah, survived a last-lap burn up with Bernard Lagat to triumph in a super-swift 12:53.11 to improve his own British mark and emphasise his position as the world’s leading athlete over 5000 and 10000m this year.

It was a good night for British interest in general with a solid third place for Dai Greene (Malcolm Arnold) in the men’s 400m hurdles – this in spite of illness all week, and later a win for Phillips Idowu (Aston Moore) in the triple jump with a second round 17.36m jump.

Tiffany Ofili-Porter also had an enjoyable evening with a PB, improving the UK national record to 12.60 in a high quality women’s 100m hurdles race where she finished third. She was followed soon after by Lisa Dobriskey who sealed an A standard for Daegu with a season’s best of 4:04.76 in the women’s 1500m.

Finally, in the field, Goldie Sayers (Dan Pfaff) threw 60.97m for fourth place in a javelin competition befitting of an Olympic line up.
