Mo Farah (Newham & Essex) ran the fastest track 10k performance by a Brit for eight years when he was 5^th on Sunday 4 May at Stanford’s Cardinal Invitational meeting in California.

Clocking 27.44.54 the European 5000m silver medallist’s run was also the fastest performance since Karl Keska ran the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Australia’s Craig Mottram claimed victory in 27.34.48. In the woman’s race Kate Reed (Bristol and West) also made her debut over 10,000m and finished 9th in 31.31.87 sending her to fifth out of the British women over 10,000m.
 

At the same meeting, in the 3000m steeplechase, Luke Gunn clocked 8:31.17 whilst Jo Ankier displayed a return to form with 9:59.16 in the women’s race.

Steve Scott Invitational – Irvine

Christine Ohuruogu (Newham & Essex) continued her impressive early season sprint form with a sprint double at Irvine over the weekend. Her 100m 11.35 and 200m 23.28 – both PBs – were the pick of the GB performances at the meet.

Donna Fraser (Croydon) came 6^th in the 100 and 3^rd in the 200m, whilst Sarah Claxton (Woodford Green, Essex Ladies) ran a solid 13.16 over the 100m hurdles.

BUPA Great Edinburgh Run

Salford’s Tomas Abyu finished 7th and top Brit in Sunday’s Bupa Great Edinburgh Run with 30.40.

Vicky Gill was the first British women’s finisher with 35.02 when a creditable sixth in a high quality race won by Benita Johnson.

Disability athletics highlights

Amongst the highlights of our leading World Class funded disability athletes over the weekend were Daniel Nobbs, Michael Churm, Libby Clegg, Katrina Hart and Hazel Simpson who all set qualifying standards for Beijing at Designated Selection Events across the UK.

Michael Churm (Chorley AC) clocked the T37 qualifying time for the second time over 200m at the BUSA Championships. Churm recorded 25.54 seconds at Bedford and now looks forward to competing at the Paralympic World Cup on Sunday.

Libby Clegg (Edinburgh Woollen Mill AC) won both the 100m and 200m in Bedford. She achieved the qualifying standard in the T12 100m, with a time of 13.10 seconds, but outside her PB of 12.80 set last year.

Katrina Hart (Birchfield Harriers) achieved the T37 qualifying standard in the 100m, two weeks before her 18^th birthday. She recorded a time of 14.97 seconds. Hazel Simpson (Jarrow & Hepburn) has her sights on her third Paralympic Games in Beijing, after clocking a time of 15.68 seconds, inside the qualifying standard for T36 100m.

At the British Wheelchair Racing Track Championships at Gateshead on Saturday 3 May, 17-year-old Mickey Bushell made it a hat-trick in the T53 100m, 200m and 400m in Gateshead.

Daniel Nobbs (BWAA) who is now supported by the World Class Development programme had a big breakthrough in the shot put on Saturday. He achieved the qualifying standard in the F54 category at the British Wheelchair Throwers’ Association Grand Prix at Stoke Mandeville. He broke the 9m barrier for the first time, with a best of 9.14m.

BUSA Championships

Key results from this weekend’s championships include personal bests in the hammer by Amir Williamson (Newham & Essex) with 66.42m and in the javelin by James Campbell (Cheltenham) with 73.70. Zoe Derham (Birchfield) was impressive with 66.39m for her hammer victory and Noni Mordi (Shaftesbury Barnet) set a triple jump personal best as well as a new Scottish record – her 13.62m was wind assisted, but her 13.47 stood for record purposes.
