It was a welcome return for action for Mo Farah (coach: Alberto Salazar) as he blew away the competition to win the 5000m at the IAAF Diamond League in Lausanne.

The double Olympic, World and European champion saw off the challenge of 17 year old Yomif Kejelcha in a sprint finish to cross the line in 13:11.77. European silver medallist Andy Vernon (Nic Bideau) was 15^th in the same race posting a time of 13:47.97.

Fresh from his maiden British title on the weekend, Zharnel Hughes (Glen Mills) continued his fantastic form with victory in the 200m. The 19 year old ran a composed race from lane two to run a new lifetime best of 20.15 with South Africa’s Anaso Jobodwana finishing second in 20.21.

It was a superb evening for Bobby Clay (Peter Mullervy), as the youngster claimed a clinical victory in the U20 1500m, with Rosie Johnson (Eddie Bairstow) the next one home for a British one-two. Clay posted a time of 4:16.88 and will head to the European Junior Championships next week in confident mood, as she looks to maintain her number one ranking in the age group.

Shara Proctor (Rana Reider) continued her consistent start to the season with a second place finish behind world leader Tianna Bartoletta. Proctor’s best jump of 6.79m sees her hold on to her place in the top three of the Diamond Race standings.  

Anyika Onuora (Reider) was in personal best setting form as the recently crowned British 400m champion posted a time of 51.26 to finish fifth in a race won by Shaunae Miller in a blistering time of 49.92.  

In a field that included six Americans, Tiffany Porter (Reider) took fifth place in 12.66, while Bianca Williams (Lloyd Cowan) running from lane one, was seventh in the 200m.

After equalling the British high jump record last weekend at the Sainsbury’s British Championships, Isobel Pooley (Fuzz Ahmed) was unable to get up to the dizzy heights of 1.97m, with the 22 year old bowing out of the competition with three failures at 1.88m. 

British athletes aside, there were some fantastic performances from Christian Taylor, who broke the 18m barrier twice in the triple jump, while Olympic javelin gold medallist Keshorn Walcott produced the second furthest throw of the year with a new national record of 90.16m.
