Faraha Finalist For 2013 World Athlete Of The Year

4 November 2013

Double world champion Mo Farah (coach: Alberto Salazar) has been named on a final three-man shortlist for the IAAF 2013 Male World Athlete of the Year award. The three finalists were selected from an initial shortlist of ten athletes following a month-long poll of the World Athletics Family.

Farah, who won 5,000m and 10,000m gold in Moscow to add to double Olympic gold from London last year, is joined by Jamaica’s eight-time world champion Usain Bolt and Ukrainian high jumper Bohdan Bondarenko, who won World Championships gold in August and narrowly missed out on setting a new world record.

As well as his double gold in Moscow, Farah set a new British and European 1500m record of 3:28.81 at the Monaco Diamond League and took victories at events such as the European Athletics Team Championships and Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games.

The winner will be selected by the Council of the International Athletics Foundation and will be announced at the 2013 World Athletics Gala in Monaco on Saturday 16 November 2013.
