Fifth The Order Of The Weekend For Shaftesbury & Edinburgh

The European Champion Clubs Cup took place at Vila Real de Santo Antonio in Portugal last weekend.

Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers finished fifth against their European counterparts in the men’s competition and Edinburgh AC matched that achievement in the women’s event.

The best Shaftesbury performance of the weekend came from Nathan Fox (coach: Frank Attoh) who set a personal best of 16.41m to finish second in the triple jump and shoot to fourth in the Power of Ten rankings.

Big points also came from Sam Taylor-Outridge (Chris Watts), who launched the javelin to 68.68m to finish second, and Chris Bennett, who was third in the hammer competition after throwing a distance of 70.34m.

Confidence Lawson (Clarence Callender) was fourth in a closely run 100m in a time of 10.76 whilst Kris Robertson (Piotr Haczek) did the same in the 400m running 47.35.

For Edinburgh, there was a win for Emily Dudgeon (Stuart Hogg) over 800m in 2.03.22 and Commonwealth Games-bound Jayne Nisbet (Graham Ravenscroft) was second in the women’s high jump with a 1.81m clearance.

There were two second place finishes in the throws as Jade Lally (Andrew Neal) threw 52.31m to finish second in the discus and Kirsty Yates (Joyce Rammell) threw 16.09 in the shot put.

The Edinburgh team finished well as they placed third in women’s 4x400m with the quintet of Avril Jackson, Kathryn Evans (George Loney), Bethanie Finlayson (Joyce Hogg) and Kathryn Christie (William Russell) setting a time of 3:47.86.
